On other platforms, pads may be detected on any slot that the OS has assigned it, which could slot 3 or slot 20 or more. However you can also check slots 4 - 11 inclusive for DirectInput gamepads, which means you can detect many other models of controller when connected through these slots. On the Windows target, slots 0 - 3 inclusive are only for Xinput gamepads, ie: Xbox360 controllers and compatibles. The gamepad "slots" are indexed from 0 upwards, and the actual slot that a gamepad assigned will depend on a variety of factors, not least of which is the OS that the project is running on. Note that when a gamepad is plugged in to your device (or it is removed) then an asynchronous System Event is triggered where you can deal with the situation using the appropriate functions. These functions work similar to the Device Inputs, in that you can detect up to four different XInput game pads that are connected (and up to 8 DirectInput gamepads) and deal with the input from each one using the same functions.

To unpair one, you may need to access it in Settings > Bluetooth, tap the info button, and select Forget This Device, before attempting to pair it with something else.GameMaker has a number of dedicated functions that can be used to detect both analog and digital controls from multiple connected gamepads. If it is, try turning Bluetooth off and on again on your device.Ĭontrollers only pair with a single device. If a controller doesn’t show in Settings when you attempt to pair it, double-check it’s in pairing mode. However, almost all Apple Arcade titles do, making it a great place to start – along with around 1500 other App Store games. It’s worth noting that relatively few iPhone/iPad games support controllers. If you’re having trouble with one of those devices, though, make sure to double-check your gamepad’s compatibility. Many of these controllers can also connect to a Mac or Apple TV in much the same way we’ve explained above. Tap Nimbus when it appears in Settings > Bluetooth. Find the button combintation that puts the gamepad into pairing mode, and tap its name when it appears on your device.Įxample: for the SteelSeries Nimbus, press the Bluetooth button found next to the R1 trigger. Most other third-party controllers are connected in a similar fashion. The Xbox button should now stay lit, indicating the controller has paired.

In Settings, tap Xbox Wireless Controller when it pops up. (It looks like a dot emitting a wireless signal.) The Xbox logo will rapidly blink. Press the Bind button on top of the controller. The PS4’s light will turn pink to confirm the controller is connected. When DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller appears on your device, tap it. Hold the PlayStation button (between the thumbsticks) and the Share button (top left).
